How do you decide which fallen officers qualify for inclusion on the National Police Memorial?
The National Police Memorial Steering Committee and Police Commissioners decided that each of the relevant jurisdictions with the approval of their Commissioner would determine the names that would qualify prior to 29 September 2006. These arrangements were determined to cover the planning stages of the Memorial up until the Dedication Ceremony. The Steering Committee developed a document setting the criteria that must be met in order for a fallen officer’s name to be included on the National Police Memorial post 29 September 2006. More information is available on the Criteria for inclusion page.
When is the deadline for corrections or additions to be approved for inclusion on the National Police Memorial prior to National Police Rememberance Day each year?
Nominations for any changes or for new inclusion on the Memorial from jurisdictions are required by 1 July each year and will be forwarded to the National Police Memorial Coordination Committee Secretariat, on the prescribed nomination form. For more information see the Nominations section of the Committee page.
Why are post-nominals not included on the touchstones?
The National Police Memorial Steering Committee made a decision with respect to the blanket non-inclusion of post-nominals on the touchstone plaques, including any names placed on the Memorial wall after Dedication, that post-nominal details will be reserved for the Honour Roll on the National Police Memorial Website.
