DETAILS OF DEATH

On the 5th November, 1927, whilst patrolling the construction camps near Mataranka, Mounted Constable CLAPP stopped and arrested a male for illegal alcohol sales.  When he was securing a pistol seized from the offender in his own waistband, the pistol discharged and the bullet severed the main artery in his leg.  With medical attention far off, Mounted Constable CLAPP bled to death.

He is buried in the Katherine Cemetery.
