On Saturday 17 July 1908 Constable Bruckner was walking to a job in Clark Street Northcote when he was accidentally killed at the Clark Street rail crossing. He had waited for a train to pass then unwittingly stepped into the path of the 5.21 p.m. football special train from Bell to Princes Bridge.
