About 12.20 am Sunday 16 August 1998 in Moorabbin whilst working on an operation investigating armed robberies in the south-eastern suburbs Sergeant Silk and Senior Constable Miller were shot and killed. The Lorimer Task Force comprising Homicide and Armed Robbery Squad detectives investigated their deaths. Two men were charged and convicted of murder and both were sentenced to Life Imprisonment.
