Private John Graham (D.C.M.) A.I.F. number 1136 9th Australian Infantry Battalion was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for conspicuous gallantry and devotion in action as a stretcher bearer. He worked continuously for four days with less than six hours rest carrying the wounded across the open in spite of heavy artillery fire. Died on Saturday 22 September 1917 of wounds received in action in Belgium. He is buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery Poperinge West-Vlaanderen Belgium.
