Sergeant McEntee died on 27 February 1972 from a malignant melanoma which had been caused by constant friction of his shoulder holster on a pigmented mole. The Sergeant was born in 1925 and joined the New South Wales Police Force on 27 October 1947. At the time of his death he was stationed at Waverley.
