About 9.45 a.m. Tuesday 28 December 1897 Constable Rowley was returning from duty at Psyche Bend when he attempted to cross a makeshift bridge over King’s Billabong. The area was flooded and dangerous and Rowley’s horse fell. The Constable was apparently driven down underwater by the weight of the animal and drowned.
