About 2.20 a.m. Saturday 20 May 2000 Senior Constables’ Robinson and Bateman responded to a call to attend a burglary in Preston. Their police van had its flashing lights on and was not travelling at high speed when it was involved in a minor collision with a sedan at the corner of High and Dennis Street Northcote. As a result the police vehicle subsequently struck a pole killing the two Senior Constables.
