DETAILS OF DEATH

In November 1890, Drysdale was in custody for horse stealing and was being escorted by Trooper Smith and TRACKER MUNGO, from Anthony’s Lagoon to Borroloola.

Early one morning, MUNGO left Smith guarding Drysdale alone so that he could bring in the horses.  While he was away, Smith unlocked Drysdale’s handcuffs so that the prisoner could roll his swag.  Drysdale waited until Smith’s back was turned and attacked him, rendering himunconscious and restraining him with the handcuffs.

On MUNGO’S return, he saw the trooper on the ground and ran to help Smith, whereupon Drysdale shot and killed MUNGO before making his escape on a police horse, never to be seen again by the Police.
