DETAILS OF DEATH
On Tuesday 26 August 2025 at approximately 10:30am investigators from Wangaratta CIU & SOCIT and members from the Bright Police Station, attended at 80 Rayner Track, Porepunkah. They attended in possession of a warrant to search the premises pursuant to Section 465 of the Crimes Act 1958. The subject in this investigation was Desmond Christopher Filbey aka Freeman who resides at the Rayner Track property. Filbey refused to open the door of his dwelling and as police were forcing entry, Filbey has discharged a firearm multiple times striking and killing Detective Leading Senior Constable Lee Thompson and Senior Constable De Waart. A third member was struck and injured when Filbey discharged further rounds.
