About 6 p.m. Friday 17 August 1860 Constable Campbell was performing patrol duties along Morses Creek Road. Witnesses stated they saw him riding ‘as fast as the horse could go’. He was apparently unable to control his mount and some 150 yards further on he fell and was fatally injured.
