On Wednesday 16 May 1956 Constable Harnetty and three other men were rescuing sheep threatened by rising flood waters in the Deep Creek area near Carisbrook. Their boat caught on a tree and capsized. Although his companions managed to reach safety Harnetty was swept away in the flood waters and drowned.
