National Police Remembrance Day ~ 29 September 2026 ~

On 29 September each year,we honour the lives and service of police officers who have been killed in the line of duty or as a result of their duties.  National Police Remembrance Day (NPRD) is a solemn occasion to pay tribute to the courage, commitment and dedication of those who serve to protect our communities.

This year holds special significance as we mark the 20th anniversary of the dedication of the national Police Memorial.

Commemorative Services will be held on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, including the National Police Remembrance Day National Service, which will commence with a march from the AFP Headquarters in Barton to the National Police Memorial.

We invite all those who are able to join us in Canberra to stand together in remembrance, reflect on the sacrifices made by our fallen officers, and honour their enduring legacy.

Date:                     Tuesday, 29 September 2026

Time:                     The Kings Avenue street march commences from Blackall Street at 4:20pm

The National Service commences at 5:00pm

Where:                  National Police Memorial, Wendouree Dr, Parkes ACT 2600

Live Stream:       The Service will be streamed via VIMEO.

Details: Ahead of the National Service, members of policing agencies from across Australia will march from the Edmund Barton Building in Barton, along Kings Avenue to the National Police Memorial.  The march will commence at 4:20pm, and members of the public are encouraged to line Kings Avenue to observe and support this moving tribute.

Upon the march’s arrival at the National Police Memorial. the National Police Remembrance Day National Service will begin at 5:00pm.  Attendees are encouraged to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the commencement of the service.

Please note that this is an outdoor event.  Guests are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather conditions on the day.

Parking: There will be no access to, nor parking available on, Wendouree Drive. All guests are requested to utilise paid parking areas either across Parkes Way at Russell Offices or across Kings Avenue bridge.

Road Closures: To allow for the march, Kings Avenue will be closed between AFP Headquarters and the National Police Memorial between 4:05pm and 4:45pm. You will need to consider this when planning your route to the NPM and your parking options. There is strictly no vehicle access to Kings Avenue during the march.
